Mike Vacarella

Mike is a head coach and Director of Programming at DogTown CrossFit. Mike coaches daily CrossFit classes, has one-on-one sessions with athletes of all levels, and builds personalized online programming grids for competitive athletes from around the world.

Mike has successfully created and programmed classes for beginners just starting CrossFit. He has successfully programmed for multiple CrossFit gyms simultaneously. Mike has coached individual athletes to Regional competitions around the world. Mike has attracted high profile athletes, including WWE World Champion Seth Rollins, by creating a very efficient and effective coaching and programming style.

Mike has been involved in the CrossFit community for over 5 years. He is a PROGENEX BLK coach and a SKINS Compression Clothing ambassador. Mike regularly contributes to The Box Magazine’s online and print publications.

Prior to CrossFit, Mike was athletically inclined participating in baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field. While earning a Bachelors of Science from Penn State University, he studied strength and conditioning training. He trained with the Penn State Boxing Club – learning fundamentals of movement and nutrition.

As an adult, Mike has developed a love for travelling and of the outdoors. Mike took time off from a busy schedule to backpack across Europe and Africa putting his fitness to the test. From trail running, to surfing, to snowboarding, to hiking, to skydiving, to free repelling down the canyons of the Austrian Alps, Mike has a love and respect for the outdoors.

Mike was introduced to CrossFit by a long-time friend using the fitness program while in the U.S Marines. His first CrossFit workout left him sore for 7 days (not an exaggeration). Mike fell in love with everything that is CrossFit. The intensity, the fitness results, the friendships, and the common love of being healthy and fit.
